Sherlock Holmes: A popular fictional detective, born and based in London, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the late 19th Century. Many readers have been interested in his stories and adventures with his sidekick Dr Watson. Who'd have thought that they would make a video game about him? Turns out there is actually a series of games based on his adventures, 4 in fact! Such titles as "Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened" and "The Case of the Silver Earring". Today I have with me, Sherlock Holmes Vs Arsene Lupin (anyone else think he looks like Poirot?) so let's see what it's like.

Gaming - Gears of War 2 Special Edition Packshot

Epic Games have released a shot of the Special Edition, or hotly anticipated upcoming title, Gears of War 2. The SE pack will feature some concept art and extra back story literature, along with the standard "making-of" DVD and some commentary on the production process.

For those of you that agreed with me on the "bring back Starship Troopers" of my "5 games that need sequels" article, you're in for a treat. 3 new screenshots have been released for the upcoming, edgy shooter, Aliens: Colonial Marines. They show some interesting choices for a shooter, as they feature a hand held radar like the film, and no evidence of a head up display at all.

Taking a leaf out of the Bioshock route, Biohazard have re-released their "Rapture" desktop platform, this time featuring a phase change setup not too dissimilar to the one they demo'd back in January.

General - Japanese demo "Shopping" robot

The Japanese have done it again, that's right, they've built another funky robot. This one though, doesn't dance like a, erm, gorilla? or serve you tea, this one in fact, goes shopping for you.

Hardware - ATI's RV710 and 730 to see early Release

ATI have managed to speed up the production process of their RV710 ans 730 chips and are planning to release the cards based on these chipsets, nearly 2 months early. nVidia had planned to use the 9500GT to go up against the 710, though no word exists on the performance difference between these cards.

Gaming - Dead Space Hands on Preview

The guys at Shacknews managed to get their hands on a playable level from Dead Space including a large portion of a boss fight. Although the guy playing the level manages to run out of ammo towards the end of the video, he was told that he could use his telekenisis powers to throw objects.

Hardware - 9500GT Released on 29th July

Nvidia has announced that they plan to release their budget 9500GT graphics card on the 29th of July. It should be a little bit faster than an 8600GT, and will come in flavours with 256MB or 512MB of memory.

Hardware - Intel Slashes Chip Prices

Intel have announced price cuts on a wide range of CPUs with some price tags falling by up to 31%. Some of the biggest reductions were to the E8500, E7200 and Q6600 chips.

Gaming - Sonic the Werehog?

Not sure how to feel about this one... Shacknews has a new trailer of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog game, "Sonic Unleashed." It features game play and FMV footage of Sonic being transformed by Robotnik into a "Werehog." It also showcases the fact that in his Werehog state, Sonic loses his speed edge and seems to become a brawler.

Dawn of War 2 is shaping up to be everything it's prequel was, and more. Shacknews have a new gameplay trailer featuring the previously unseen Eldar faction.

Hardware - ATI 4870 x2 to be Released in August

ATI plan to release the 4870 X2 in early August, with wide availability of the card coming in around September. ATI hopes that this card will be enough of a powerhouse to challenge, or even surpass, nVidia's current hold on the extreme top end of the market, with their GTX 280 GPU.

With the need for a steady and stable supply of power to fuel the most power hungry of PCs nowadays, we are starting to see an increasing number of power supplies with high wattages that claim stability and silence as well. One such product is the Tuniq Miniplant, which boasts an impressive 950W of power and was for a time the highest wattage PSU in the 80+ category of standard PS2 sized units. Today I will be taking this one for a spin to see just how efficient and quiet it really is.
